Tenor Daniel Schmid was born in Heidenheim. He was already active as a singer during his school years and founded the male vocal ensemble MA’cappella of the Heidenheim region with five friends, which still fills halls such as the Congress Centrum Heidenheim with up to 1,300 people today. They won gold diplomas at the International Choir Competition Bad Ischl 2014 and the Interkultur Competition in Malaga 2015.
His studies initially took him to the Technical University of Munich to study maths and physics as a teacher, then to the HMDK Stuttgart to study school music with Carmen Mammoser as his singing major.
In 2020, he began a bachelor’s degree in singing with Prof Ulrike Sonntag and graduated in July 2021. This was followed by a two-year specialisation at the Stutgart Opera School and in concert singing as part of a master’s degree, which he completed with top marks and distinction.
In 2016, he was a founding member of the chamber choir figure humaine under Denis Rouger. He has toured internationally with the Kammerchor Stuttgart under Frieder Bernius.
He has been a freelance member of the SWR Vokalensemble since 2022. He himself conducted the company choirs at the Ministry of State, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Social Affairs. He is a much sought-after concert soloist, including the Christmas oratorios by Bach and Saint-Saëns as well as masses by Schubert and Haydn. Numerous performances of opera arias, duets and songs round off his repertoire.
In January 2022, he made his debut as Lysander in ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ by Britten at the Wilhelma Theatre Stuttgart (ML: Rasmus Baumann, director: Michael Schulz) with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra.
Since 2024 he has also been a freelance member of the WDR Choir. From February 2025 to June 2026, he held a permanent position with the Netherlands Radio Choir (Groot Omroepkoor). From July 2026, he will take up a permanent position as a tenor with the SWR Vokalensemble.
